This app is great and the support is even better. It helps so much in tracking data for my classes.

Importing cvs can be a pain. Videos are helpful, but he talks to fast and doesn’t take the time to really explain well.
Quick response when I had a problem with email button not showing up. As soon as I emailed with a question I had an almost immediate response with possible solutions. I have been using this app for a year and a half to take attendance at church. It is a wonderful app. I recommend it!!
I’m one of those users who has a class of 130 people, and scanning binders is super handy! I appreciate just being able to do it If I had a super wish list, it would be: Live update/sync between multiple devices (I have multiple iPads in my class, so if it was simple to scan with two and speed up the process and have it sync... well that’d be the dream)! Also, is it ios13 supported already? Thanks for your work!
My colleagues and I have been using this app for years with great success. If you are a teacher who regularly works with large amounts of students, and are looking for a way to quickly take attendance, this is THE app! The developer is also accessible and helpful if you need to contact him. As a teacher, this is one of the few apps that I’ve not only used for years but has truly made the attendance-taking part of my job much easier. If I could give it 6 stars I would.
I have used this app for many, many years and....I purchased an iPad just to use this app, which is not on Android. It accomplishes my goal, which is relating student name to face to attendance. The Attendance app has been critical to me for a long time because I could quickly and easily capture student photo with student name and email those pictures with 2 clicks to supporting colleagues. I am still learning the new app & Mr. Dave is very responsive and has an FAQ web page with fast to-the-point tutorials that address your needs. There are various reports to email and I do hope that a one-click solution for emailing photos will be added. I absolutely love this app that is clearly by a teacher for teachers.
I am a choir director and have used Attendance2 for years. It has never been the “prettiest” app, but does it ever do the job. The developer does a great job of responding to questions. I have used this app to have choirs of 60 students scan in before class (I know of one director who had 120 and had students scan in via two different iPads...one for males, one for females). I have used it on a tour, having students scan in as they walk by me. There are a number of ways to handle the scanning ability (QR codes). You can generate the QR codes outside the app, or the app will do so as well. You can print them or distribute them digitally. I found that my high school students, particularly on tour, would take a picture of the QR code and scan in with their phone—the backlighting of a phone works GREAT. Also...printing the QR code on labels (I bought a box of full page 1/2 page UPS labels), I could put labels in folders, causing students to have to have their folder at the start of class (there is a tendency in choir for students to get their folders AFTER warm-ups, which is always an annoyance for the teacher). I have taken attendance a number of ways, and this has always been the most effective and accurate. I can’t praise this app highly enough. So yes, it isn’t “pretty.” It doesn’t matter...it is a heavy weight champ in my world.
I truly enjoy using the app. However, I wish the app would allow you to generate a daily roster of the students attendance.
The developer was quick to respond back to me with quick fixes for the issues I was having. Thanks!!
I was forced to switch to the new version when the original app stopped working after an update, and boy, do I miss the old version! It was just much more user-friendly and intuitive. If possible, please get the buttons on the bottom of the screen back! I will most likely continue to use this app as it is still the best I could find, but I miss the simplicity of the original app.
As a choral director with classes of up to 50-60 kids, this app has been an absolute life saver! My kids each have a code on their folder, and they scan in as they enter the room!
This is a really good app. I used it to take attendance for the past three years. I teach at a community college, and normally have around five on ground classes 25 to 30 students in each class. I recommended the app to a colleague and he now uses it, and thinks it's awesome too!
Review # 3 --- This app has definitely helped me grow my business. But with that had come another need to share the attendance among multiple coaches. I'd still recommend this app above all the rest, but it would seem fairly simple to add a one button sync to a Dropbox file that could also be shared. Right now the workaround is ridiculously inefficient. Also, for anyone who uses this data to dump to google sheets to process it all, I've found that it's simpler to save the emailed CSV directly to my online server and then link it to auto update on Sheets with the =importdata("URL") formula. Now I can do it all from my phone! Review # 2 *after update* --- After creating a spreadsheet that filtered everything correctly, this app works perfect. The UI improvement of the header color was a great and needed touch. Once you get to know the app, it's good. Still wish I could've just customized the spreadsheet output, rather than use a series of formulas and several sheets. Review #1 --- I wish the look and functionality were like the Red Hawk Attendance app. This one is a bit confusing and a tad tedious. Love the customization and calculations. I'd like it even more so if you could customize the exported spreadsheet a bit. My specific want would be to have just the names and the total scores showing. After months worth of classes, that's a lot of data to sort on the horizontal axis of my google doc. Overall, great app.
For several years we have been using Attendance to keep track of @ 150 kids on an annual ski trip, among @ 15 chaperones. The data we use is pretty simple and the formatting is rudimentary (i.e. not flashy) but then information is critical and at finger tips of every chaperone. On the six hour bus ride to VT we have each kid come to the front and we verify all information and take their picture to add to the file. Having the picture on hand also good for safety, name recognition, etc.
I was looking for a simple way to capture attendance AND analyze the captured data. I used the previous app "Attendance" which would let me dump data to DropBox in a form I could be dropped into a database table without too much difficulty. Attendance2 added many nice new features. It really is a great app for most people, but the reporting is not friendly to databases. It takes a lot of effort to convert reports to simple normalized form, which would support data analysis. So, I went back to the old app until I acquired an iPhone 6s, which broke Attendance. Finally, I decided I did not need many bells and whistles and tried using Google sheets and Excel file on DropBox on my phone and then pulling the data down to Excel with ODBC queries. Both methods work great and I get data in neat tables for analysis. So for most of you, I would recommend Attendance2, but if you want to gather data tables for your own analysis, keep looking.
I have used this app to take attendance for my select choirs for the past year. Works smoothly to do everything it's supposed to do, and support is great. I emailed the app developer and had a solution to my problem (my error!) incredibly fast. Highly recommended!
Seriously the best $5 I've ever spent. Deserves WAY more attention! I don't know of any other app that allows attendance to be taken with personal QR codes. I just give each high school student a print out, they take a pic of it and scan it each time they come in. You can even personalize late times, class times, and if you want to email them or their parent on account of an absence. This app has saved me so much time, whoever developed this is an angel!
I have been using this app for a number of years, recording attendance for college classes. It is clear that it is designed by someone has to take attendance. I import the student list from the Contacts app, which in turn imports all the student information from a spreadsheet I can get from the University website. Then, among many other functions, I can easily export attendance figures back to the same spreadsheet. It's perfect for me.
This app is great! It is versatile for many different needs and could be used in a single classroom or for after school events/activities. The spreadsheet options are great - I’d love to have a few more options, but it does provide quite a few. Dave, the developer is very nice and is responsive to troubleshooting. He helped me figure out a problem I was having in a very timely manner. I appreciate him and his app!
I've used this app to track attendance for years now. I love the photo option to help me learn students' names. This app is free and ad-free, many thanks to the developer!
Don't do it! I wish I wouldn't have!
Just tried this out with my 100-voice middle school choir and it was awesome! THANK YOU for an app that makes attendance easy and fun. I highly recommend to any teachers of large music ensembles.
I don't usually review apps. But this application is amazing and a time saver. It is so helpful with regular size classes, but large size classes (100+) students is where it really shines.
The visual aesthetics are not much to write home about, but after that this app does everything and way more than I need it to do. What’s more, the developer is super responsive. I emailed a simple question and he responded within an hour or two. Fantastic.
Works well after a small learning curve. I use it for all my college course attendance lists.
To Summit life: please update to the latest version. Version 4.5.1 had a bug that would crash on launch on iOS 7. Version 4.5.2 fixes this.
Update: The update from Mid-June 2015 used a version of Text Expander that caused it to crash on devices not running iOS 8. I emailed the developer and he responded within hours. The problem is fixed. Imagine that! Communication and patience are more effective than anonymous griping in app store reviews. Hmm. I have been using this app for 3.5 years, and it continues to get better all the time. My favorite features are that I can add student photos and create random student groups (helps with on-the-fly random seating on test days). It instantly shows me total number of students present and total enrolled. It's easy to pull up each student's individual records. I can keep notes about student contact, too, and email a copy of attendance records to each student directly from the app. Nearly everything is customizable and automated. I can back up with Dropbox, too. Best support in the App Store!
Bought this app for our ministry to track our attendance and I can't get this app to open on any of our iPads.
This app is going to make checking in over one hundred students weekly super easy. The QR code generator automation works really well with the auto-generated unique IDs. I had no issues getting it set up. I just wish I could automatically update the student database in the app from the file in dropbox or even better, be able to do that from google drive.
I last reviewed v. 3.9 with five starts. The new version gets five as well. The new feature of being able to view a graph of the students attendance right on the class attendance screen is great. So if a student has been present half the time, their graph would be half red, half green. Great to see trends at a glance. As always, customer support continues to be great. Everytime I’ve emailed the developer, I’ve received a response within 24 hours.
Great app, but there is an issue with the newest version whereby the attendance buttons for each student are not responsive; one must tap slightly above the actual green or red color and on the actual word to change the attendance status. at times, I will push several times and the status won't change. I am using an iPhone 5C. The old buttons for this worked favorably to the current version's.
4.2 update: The bar graph is amazing. At a glance I can see not only that a student was late once, but a readout of how bad attendance has been. I think even Edward Tufte would approve. This is better at what it does than a Numbers spreadsheet or any other dedicated attendance app: 1. It is astoundingly easy to take roll. 2. It's also easy to email students individually, and to single out students who have missed class. 3. I count off a certain number of points for tardiness or absence, and the app allows me to set those values and find easy totals. 4. I can randomly select students and assign them to groups quickly. Essentially, it does what it says on the tin, and it does it far better than the next best option--that's worth at least four stars, right? However, I have a few caveats: 1. Some options seem mutually exclusive, like the "Link with Dropbox" and "Unlink with Dropbox." Don't you need to display only one of those? Even so, the app is complex because it has to be complex--as a cluttered desk is said to be the hallmark of an active mind, I suppose an app cluttered with features is by definition "feature-rich." Certainly it is much closer to doing anything you'd want it to than another app. 2. The attendance status is not aligned with the names. It's not a biggie, just odd. 3. Displays and reports of student attendance data are a little awkward and zoomed out, but there's a button right there, and pinch-to-zoom works. 4. No perfect sync between iPhone and iPad. Hopefully iOS 8’s iCloud improvements will make sync better. Even so, odds are that you're going to use this more on one device than another. Stick with that.
This app has made things much easier for me when tracking all my classes. The software is flexible enough for me make any adjustments needed for my particular system keeping track. I have also received prompt and concise responses from Mr. Reed that have been extremely helpful.
As a teacher I use this app every day. It cuts hours of work into minutes, it gives parents/students valuable data about how they are performing, allows you to email or text every student/parent an individual report of their progress in seconds, and the developer will respond quickly every time you email him. Can't get better than this.
Example of an app that did not improve with the new version. The original was easy to use. This thing is almost unusable. I can't even give it one star. Sorry. I am going to the original.
I think Attendance2 runs the smoothest out of any available attendance app on the AppStore. I used the first version for 3 years and have been using this one for 1 month and enjoy it.
This is a terrific app. I teach at a community college and my students love this way of taking attendance. I am able to export my student's info from D2L to dropbox and right into the app. I can generate qr codes and then each student gets one. Most of them store them on their smartphones. Then they just beep in every day. Awesome.
I use this app every day in my HS classes. Though it takes a little set up and exploration, you will find it has just about everything you could ask for in an attendance app. I especially love attendance2 for keeping track of my students on out of town trips. Give it a shot - you won't be disappointed.
I am safety leader in my building. I am using the Attendance2 to improve evacuation accounting for 300+ people. This is required under US OHSA 29 CFR 1910.38 Emergency Action Plans sub-clause c(4)... An emergency action plan must include at a minimum: c(4) Procedures to account for all employees after evacuation; My goal is to get names of the missing in the hands of leadership for notifications in minutes. To-date companies have written procedures but I think it take a long time, I am one of two volunteer safety leaders for my building. We are planning on using the Attendance2 to improve evacuation accounting for 300+ people. This is required under US OHSA 29 CFR 1910.38 Emergency Action Plans sub-clause c(4)... An emergency action plan must include at a minimum: c(4) Procedures to account for all employees after evacuation; Our goal is to get names of the missing in the hands of our Crisis team(s) for notifications, etc. To-date companies have written procedures but I think it take hours, with manual process, for them to figure out who's impacted in a crisis. This app that got my attention to meet this need.
You can literally do more with notepad, this app is worthless what a waste of 5.00 should have given it to a homeless person instead
The App helps me keep track of attendance for my college courses. It is not always intuitive to figure out or understand the Help info, but the Developer is responsive and helpful in supporting the App. As a result, I see now that the App does everything I need it to do for the way I want to track attendance.
The author has provided us access to a truly useful and powerful app. I typically use it on my iPad because I have all my class notes and the text book on that device. I am using the Status1 and Status2 features fully, and they are very useful. There is a note-taking capability for keeping track of what happened in class as well as individual and dated notes for each student. There is a small learning curve for the app which is time well-invested. A previous reviewer was carping about the look. I think the look is just fine. It's a utilitarian and stable app created for us by a computer sciences professor who makes but small change selling it. All I care about is that it WORKS. And it works very well.
I have been using this for a while now it is very easy to use and customize. I have found it to be very reliable with no problems. Great app
As a visual person, teaching studio courses where attendance is key, I don't know what I'd do without this app. I love the photos, the ability to instantly communicate and, of course the reports. After using Attendance 1 for two years, I'm thrilled to have the refinements and ease of use of Attendance 2. It's worth every penny.
The creator of this app does not understand simplicity and good design.
When I first wrote a review of this app, it was missing a key feature being able to add students from the contacts. However since that time, the developer added this feature and it is really made this attendance app I think the best one. I downloaded a couple of different apps and this one is robust and had got every different setting that you possibly need to be able to l take attendance of any group you ever wanted to, a classroom of students, a sports team, a church whatever you're doing and the developer, if you ever have a question, you can contact him, he has already contacted me back already three times. If he can help, he will. I don't know this guy personally, but he has been a help. Thanks for a great app.
I have been using Attendance for years and have told a lot of colleagues about it. It made my record keeping much easier, and the photo option helped me learn my students' names very quickly each semester. When I realized the new iOS would not support my old version I bought Attendance2, and although the interface is a little different, I already appreciate the new features. Now I can record how much a student has participated in a particular class, I can easily see the "red students" who have been missing classes, and I can indicate if a student left early. As I was migrating the information from the first weeks of class into this new app, I was having trouble with the reports. I emailed Dave and, this is no lie, he got back to me within five minutes with the solution -- since the semester had already started, I needed to change the date range the reports were covering. Since he is a professor teaching a full load, I would not expect that amazing response time every day, but it happened today. This app will make your life easier, taking attendance will be unobtrusive, and your students will think you are on the cutting edge of technology.
This app is great and easy to use. Please keep support for iOS5!
I am a chief medical resident and am tasked with taking attendance of other doctors at conferences. I refuse to sit there and check off boxes. I found this app and it is the perfect replacement. I imported the residents info into the app from my contacts list, created badges with QR tags using the apps QR creating feature. I now watch as residents scan in for attendance. It feels so high tech, looks complex (but isn't really) and everyone participates. I'm very happy with the app and recommend it for anyone who is willing to invest a little time into learning the app. I must say even without scanning the qr badges its quite a good program. The author is very helpful and constantly tweaks the app. Strong recommendation!
